The Eroica LX is a low-output moving coil cartridge: coils hand-wound on a pure iron armature, a neodymium magnet, a nude Gyger II diamond stylus and a light Pocan body. It needs a phono input made for moving coil. Sold as a single cartridge.

About the Goldring Eroica LX Moving Coil Cartridge

Eroica is the Italian word for heroic, and the LX is the low-output model in Goldring’s Eroica pair. Each one is hand-built, then adjusted individually for azimuth and compliance.

The stylus is a nude fine-line elliptical Gyger II with a 6 µm lesser radius, which Goldring say gives smooth, extended highs, low distortion and a detailed, dynamic sound. The coils sit on a pure iron armature in a magnetic circuit built around a powerful neodymium magnet.

With 0.5 mV of output, it must be used with an amplifier or phono stage that has a dedicated moving coil input. The stylus cannot be changed by the user: Goldring offer a re-tip and an exchange service for worn moving coil cartridges. Goldring say it is compatible with all low to medium-mass tonearms.

Questions about the Goldring Eroica LX Moving Coil Cartridge

Is it sold as a pair?

No. It is one cartridge, which is all a turntable needs: it plays both stereo channels.

Will it work with my moving magnet phono input?

No. At 0.5 mV it is a low-output cartridge and needs a phono stage or amplifier with a moving coil input. If you only have an MM input, look at the Eroica HX, which Goldring designed for exactly that.

What comes with it?

Goldring’s product photography shows the cartridge in a presentation case with a clear stylus guard, mounting screws, an Allen key and a small spanner.

Can I change the stylus when it wears?

Not yourself. Goldring offer a re-tip service and an exchange scheme for worn moving coil cartridges.
