About the Goldring Eroica HX Moving Coil Cartridge

Most moving coil cartridges need a special phono input or a step-up. The HX is built to avoid that: very fine enamelled-copper windings, so fine they float, give it an output that suits a normal MM input while keeping the low crosstalk moving coils are known for.

A new pure-iron cross-armature gives the windings a good magnetic path and separates the left and right channels more effectively than a moving magnet design. The Gyger II stylus has a five micron playing radius and Goldring quote a range up to 50 kHz. The housing is Pocan, chosen for its light weight and lack of coloration.

It is a way to try moving coil without changing your amplifier. Goldring say it works with virtually all tonearms, straight, S-shaped or J-shaped, aluminium or carbon fibre. The stylus cannot be changed by the owner; Goldring offer a re-tip and exchange service.

Questions about the Goldring Eroica HX Moving Coil Cartridge

Is it sold as a pair?

No. It is one cartridge, which is all a turntable needs: it plays both stereo channels.

Do I need a moving coil phono stage?

No. The HX has enough output (2.5 mV) to work with a standard moving magnet phono input, and Goldring say it needs no extra equipment or system changes.

What comes with it?

Goldring’s product photography shows the cartridge in a presentation case with a clear stylus guard, mounting screws, an Allen key and a small spanner.

Can I change the stylus when it wears?

Not yourself. Goldring offer a re-tip service and an exchange scheme for worn moving coil cartridges.
