About the Primare R35 MM/MC Phono Preamplifier
The R35 is the phono stage in Primare’s full-size 35 series and the reference for the smaller R15. The sensitive signal circuits run from a fully isolated power supply, so even very low-output moving coil cartridges stay quiet.
Cartridge matching is unusually thorough: three gain settings each for MM and MC, MC resistive loading from 10 ohms to 47 kohms in 21 steps, and capacitive loading for both. A subsonic filter is switchable. Primare lists Stereo+ Phono Preamp Product of the Year 2020-2021 among its awards.
Use the XLR outputs with a balanced amplifier or preamp such as the I35 or PRE35, or the RCA outputs with anything else. It matches the 35 series in size and finish.

Questions about the Primare R35 MM/MC Phono Preamplifier
Should I use the XLR or RCA output?
Use XLR if your amplifier or preamp has balanced inputs, such as the Primare I35 or PRE35. Otherwise use RCA. Gain is 6 dB higher via XLR.
Is it suitable for low-output moving coil cartridges?
Yes. MC gain goes up to 70 dB via RCA and 76 dB via XLR, with fine loading adjustment.
